Argentina April 2022: Peugeot (+60.2%), Mercedes (+32.9%) defy market down -2.6%

The Argentinean new vehicle market edges down -2.6% year-on-year in April to 31,633 sales, bringing the year-to-date tally to 138.878, a -7.1% drop over the same period in 2021. Atop the brands ranking, Toyota (-1.2%) and Fiat (+4.4%) both outpace the market to 18.4% and 12.3% share respectively, Toyota cementing its status as the favourite marque in the country. Volkswagen (-44.8%) rallies back up two spots on last month but still freefalls year-on-year, now ranking #4 YTD vs. #2 in FY2022. Renault (+2.3%) manages an uptick but is down one rank month-on-month to #4. Peugeot (+60.2%) once again posts the largest gain in the Top 10, with Mercedes (+32.9%) and Citroen (+23.1%) also shining. Ford edges up 0.2% but Chevrolet (-14.2%) and Nissan (-10.8%) both lose share year-on-year. Notice also DS (+64.7%) and Hyundai (+70.7%) impressive further down.
In the models charts, the Fiat Cronos (-8%) continues to dominate albeit with 8.5% share vs. 12.2% so far this year. The Peugeot 208 (+124.2%) is back up to #2 overall, a ranking it also holds year-to-date, passing the Toyota Hilux (-7.1%). The Chevrolet Cruze (+51.1%) is also in outstanding shape above the Toyota Etios (-24%) and VW Amarok (-47.7%) both imploding. The Renault Sandero (+45.8%), Kangoo (+37.3%) and Ford Ranger (+11.3%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. The Toyota Corolla Cross (#10) is back inside the Top 10 for the 2nd time since its launch (add last August) and is by far the best-selling recent launch in Argentina. It distances the VW Taos (#17), Fiat Pulse (#35), Ford Maverick (#43) and Jeep Commander (#53).
