Uruguay Full Year 2021: Fiat and Strada top market shooting up 41.6%

The Fiat Strada is the best-selling vehicle in Uruguay in 2021.

The Uruguayan new light vehicle market shoots up 41.6% year-on-year in 2021 to 49,265 units, Fiat (+113.3%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year and gains four spots to land in pole position for the year, toppling Volkswagen (+24.1%) while Renault (+19%), Suzuki (+24.2%) and Chevrolet (+20.6%) all underperform and lose one rank on 2020. Hyundai (+168.7%) shows a spectacular uptick but is only up one spot on last year to #6, overtaking Nissan (+29.2%). Toyota (+94.5%) and Peugeot (+42.7%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Chery (-1%) struggles but remains the #1 Chinese brand ahead of BYD (+112%), Dongfeng (-10.5%) and Changan (+66.8%). All in all, Chinese carmakers hold a 7.6% share of the Uruguayan market in 2021, down from 8.4% in 2020.

Over in the models ranking, like in neighbouring Brazil the Fiat Strada easy snaps the overall best-seller title with 9.3% share. It is followed on the podium by the Hyundai HB20 at 7.5% of the market and the Renault Kwid at 3.8%. Just below, the Suzuki Swift (3.7%) and Renault Oroch (+3.4%) close the Top 10. Notice also the Suzuki Alto at #7, the VW Gol at #8, Chevrolet Joy at #9 (the previous generation Onix), and the Chevrolet Onix itself at #10.
