Austria March 2022: Tesla Model Y and Mazda CX-3 top market freefalling -30.1%
The Mazda CX-3 is a surprise #2 in Austria in March.
New car sales in Austria freefall -30.1% year-on-year in March to 20,653 units, sending the year-to-date tally down -17.5% to 52,375. Both Volkswagen (-39.6%) and Skoda (-35.5%) fall even faster than the market but retain the top two spots this month. BMW (-2.2%) and Audi (-4.2%) swap ranks to #3 and #4 respectively, while Mercedes (-8.4%) also manages a loss well under the market rate. In the remainder of the Top 10, Mazda (-9.8%), Tesla (-14%) and Renault (-27%) are in the same position unlike Seat (-46.9%) and Ford (-30.9%). Further down, Polestar (+1300%), Cupra (+154.1%), Honda (+10.9%) Toyota (+2.9%) and DS (+6.7%) are the only gainers in the remainder of the Top 35.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y is up one spot on last month to sign its first ever monthly win in Austria with 3.2% share. Surprise at #2: the Mazda CX-3 (+43%) follows and breaks the YTD Top 20 as a result at #13. The Skoda Fabia (-28.7%) and VW Tiguan (-39.8%) are hit hard, unlike the Toyota Yaris (+69.8%). The VW Caddy (+15.9%) and Polo (+15.8%) also defy the market gloom with double-digit gains. The Tesla Model 3 (-72%) ranks 7th for the month and is out of the Q1 Top 20. Notice also the Cupra Formentor back up to #15 and the Renault Arkana breaking into the monthly Austrian Top 20 for the first time at #18.
