Slovakia January 2022: Skoda Octavia #1, Ssangyong Korando just outside Top 10, market up 72.6%

The Ssangyong Korando misses out on a Top 10 finish by just 20 sales.

New car sales in Slovakia start the year all guns blazing at +72.6% year-on-year to 5,739 units. Skoda (+23.9%) largely trails the market but remains by far the most popular brand with 19.7% share vs. 20.3% over the Full Year 2021. Toyota (+132.9%) is up one spot on December and four on its FY2021 ranking to #2 and 10.1% share, while Hyundai (+73.1%) matches the market but posts a somewhat weak share at 9.2% vs. 10.8% in FY2021. Kia (+529.6%), Dacia (+601.9%) and Opel (+108.1%) also beat the market whereas BMW (+10.3%), Volkswagen (+14.3%), Citroen (+16.8%) and Mercedes (+26%) aren’t that lucky. Further down, Cupra (+366.7%), Ssangyong (+353.6%), Jeep (+295.7%), Renault (+271.4%), Seat (+271.4%), Suzuki (+264.1%) and Mazda (+217.2%) show the biggest gains.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia passes its sibling the Skoda Fabia to land the top spot at 5.6% share vs. 4.4% for the Fabia while the leader of December, the Kia Ceed, drops to #3. The Hyundai i30 is stuck in 4th place vs. #2 over the Full Year 2021. The Toyota RAV4 is up 13 spots on December to a fantastic 5th place, followed by the Skoda Kamiq (+2), Dacia Duster (+3) and Dacia Sandero (-1). The Hyundai Tucson and Skoda Karoq round out the Top 10. Notice also the Ssangyong Korando up 61 spots on last month to #11, the Toyota Yaris Cross up 52 to #15 and the Toyota Yaris up 42 to #20.
