Portugal February 2022: Peugeot monopolises podium with 2008, 208 and 3008 in market back up 39.2%

Peugeot 3008 sales are up 153.5% year-on-year in Portugal in February.

The Portuguese new car market rallies back up 39.2% to 11,571 sales on a particularly low year-ago comparison base when the market was down -59% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now up 16.7% to 21,400 units. Peugeot (+15%) trails the market growth but easily keeps the top spot with 15.7% share. It distances Mercedes (+18.1%) up two spots on January to #2. Toyota (+183.4%) posts a spectacular year-on-year gain and is also up two ranks on last month to #3. BMW (+55.3%) also outraces the market while Renault (+39.1%) matches it but is stuck in 5th place vs. #2 over the Full Year 2021. Kia (+167.2%), Hyundai (+131.5%), Volkswagen (+61.6%) and Nissan (+50.2%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.

Over in the models ranking, for the first time in Portuguese history Peugeot monopolises the podium – something it has never done in France – with the 2008 (+59.5%), 208 (-34.1%) and 3008 (+153.5%), the latter up 19 spots on January to #3. The 2008 and 208 rank #1 and #2 in the year-to-date charts while the 3008 is now #4. The Toyota Corolla (+807.3%) secures an extravagant gain to land in 4th place overall and #5 YTD vs. #18 over the Full Year 2021, while the Renault Captur (+47.7%) is back up 12 ranks on last month to round out the Top 5. Below the Citroen C3 (-34.9%), Mercedes A-Class (-2.6%) and BMW 1 Series (+13.3%) all losing share year-on-year, the Nissan Juke (+188.7%) and BMW 3 Series (+108.3%) close the Top 10 in spectacular fashion. Below, the Mitsubishi Space Star (+1722.2%), Hyundai i20 (+453.1%), Mercedes C-Class (+237.5%) and Kia Stonic (+234.6%) all secure surreal upticks. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#15) is the best-selling recent launch above the VW Taigo (#42), Renault Arkana (#44) and Kia EV6 (#51).
