Switzerland January 2022: Skoda #1 for the first time, Octavia reclaims top spot, Audi Q4 on podium
The Octavia (+73.8%) helps Skoda to its first Swiss pole position this month.
The Swiss new car market edges up 5.1% year-on-year in January to 15,899 sales. 4×4 sales are up 5.4% to 7,908 and 49.7% share vs. 49.6% a year ago, petrol sales drop -9.9% to 6,280 and 39.5% share vs. 46%, diesel falters -27.7% to 2,028 units and 12.8% share vs. 18.5% in January 2021, HEV+MHEV is up 24.2% to 3,912 and 24.6% share vs. 20.8%, PHEV soars 32.4% to 1,531 and 9.6% vs. 7.6% and BEV surges 106% year-on-year to 2,126 and 13.4% share vs. 6.8% a year ago.
Looking at the brands ranking, Skoda (+54.3%) overtakes Volkswagen (+17%) to land what is believed to be its first pole position in Swiss history with 9.9% share vs. 7.8% over the Full Year 2021. Volkswagen is at 9.5% vs. 10.8% over FY2021 and distances Mercedes (-9.8%) and Audi (+49.1%) surging ahead. Renault (+40.5%), Hyundai (+34.6%), Peugeot (+27.4%) and Toyota (+11.4%) also post excellent scores in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, notice Porsche (+25%) up to #13, DS (+85%), Cupra (+80.7%), Opel (+43.3%) and Mini (+21.6%) all in outstanding shape.
Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+73.8%) reclaims the top spot for the first time since last May, distancing the VW Tiguan (+72.8%) while the Audi Q4 is up five spots on December to land on the third step of the podium, its highest ranking so far in Switzerland. The Audi A3 (+123.7%) and Peugeot 208 (+57.1%) round out the Top 5 in spectacular fashion. The Dacia Sandero (+17.8%) and Skoda Fabia (+34.7%) also shine below while the Skoda Enyaq is down 6 spots to #9 and the VW Golf (+74.2%) rallies back up 7 ranks on last month to #10. Below the Q4 and Enyaq, the Toyota Yaris Cross (#16) is the third most popular recent launch above the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#44), Cupra Born (#56) and Opel Mokka (#58).
