The Romanian new car market bounces back up 55.5% year-on-year in January to 9,337 sales on a particularly low year-ago base which was at -51.9% on the year prior. Dacia (+202.5%) returns to its traditional level at 29.6% share vs. 28.7% over the Full Year 2021. Hyundai (+47.7%) trails the market but stays at an excellent 2nd place with 10.5% share vs. #6 and 7.9% over the FY2021. Renault (+161.5%) remains at #3, distancing Toyota (-19.8%) for an unchanged Top 4 vs. December. Fiat (+750%) posts a surreal gain and is up 7 spots on December to #8, with Kia (+200%) also over-performing in the remainder of the Top 10. Model-wise, after two consecutive months of domination by the Dacia Spring, the Dacia Logan (+191%) returns to its traditional pole position with 11.4% of the market vs. 10.9% over the FY2021. The Dacia Sandero (+292.1%) edges past the Dacia Duster (+380.4%) while the Dacia Spring fall 9 spots to #10. The Fiat 500L (+2253.3%) posts an unusually high score which has to be related to a large rental or government order. The Hyundai Tucson (+126.5%) rounds out the Top 5 ahead of the Renault Clio (+414%) and the locally-produced Ford Puma (-8.4%) in difficulty. Below the Spring, the Renault Arkana (#26) and Hyundai Bayon (#47) are the most successful recent launches.
