Denmark September 2021: Tesla Model Y takes control of market down -17.3%
The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle in Denmark in September.
New car sales in Denmark derail -17.3% year-on-year in September to 14.222 units, tilting the year-to-date tally into negative territory at -1.5% to 139.953. Volkswagen (-33.3%) almost doubles the market decline rate but remains in the brands lead with 9.1% share vs. 9.9% so far this year. The rest of the Top 5 goes against the grain and all post significant year-on-year lifts: Hyundai (+5.5%) is up three spots on August to #2, Mercedes (+9.8%) is up four to #3 and now ranks #5 year-to-date, Kia (+29.8%) is up 8 ranks to #4 and Audi (+77.5%) is down three to #5 but scores the largest gain in the Top 15. Only BMW (+33.1%) manages an uptick in the remainder of the Top 10 while Tesla (-14.9%) climbs up 7 spots on last month to #10 but is down year-on-year. Further down, MG (+385%) returns inside the Top 20 at #20 just below Seat.
Model-wise, the new Tesla Model Y surges 16 ranks on August to snap the overall pole position, while its sibling the Model 3 (-62.5%) holds the third spot vs. #105 in August. The Kia Ceed (+80.8%) is sandwiched between the two Teslas, up 23 spots on last month. #2 in August, the VW ID.4 falls to a still very satisfying 4th place ahead of the Hyundai i10 (-26.5%) and Citroen C3 (-45%) both struggling mightily. The rest of the Top 10 sports fantastic gains, with BMW 3 Series (+156.6%), Audi Q3 (+97.7%), Peugeot 3008 (+87.4%) and Suzuki Swift (+58%) all advancing forward very dynamically. Below the ID.4, the most successful recent launch is the Audi Q4 (#14), followed by the Skoda Enyaq (#26) and MG eHS (#27). Notice also the Aiways U5 breaking into the Top 100 at #77.
