Czech Republic September 2021: Seat (+77.7%), Kia (+31.3%) can’t prevent market fall (-16.2%)
Seat sales jump 77.7% in September in the Czech Republic.
New car sales in the Czech Republic fall -16.2% year-on-year in September to 14.165 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 9.1% to 161.924. Local behemoth Skoda (-25.6%) drops markedly faster than its home market but manages to post a share in line with its year-to-date level at 34.8%. Just below, Hyundai (+6.4%), Volkswagen (+10.3%) and Kia (+31.3%) all swim upstream with year-on-year gains. Seat (+77.7%) scores the largest uptick in the Top 10 while Toyota (-10.3%) resists relatively well and the remainder of the Top 10 all underperform: Dacia (-47.2%), Ford (-35.9%) and Mercedes (-30%) all would rather forget this month. Further down the charts, Ssangyong (+234.2%), Nissan (+97.8%), Lexus (+65.6%), Mazda (+40.3%), Porsche (+33.3%), Suzuki (+10.5%), Volvo (+7.1%) and Subaru (+5.5%) are among the brands that manage a year-on-year lift.
Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+13.2%) confirms it is now the Czech customers’ favourite with a strong 10.2% share vs. 7.5% so far this year, potentially helped by the new generation of the model arriving in dealerships. The Skoda Kamiq (+4.1%) also improves its footprint and ranks #2 for the third time in the past 4 months. The Skoda Scala (-6.6%) is up three spots on August to land on the third step of the podium whereas the Skoda Octavia (-60.4%) continues to implode at #4 but remains #2 year-to-date for now. The Hyundai i30 (-5.8%) is once again the best-selling non Skoda model in the Czech Republic at #5 overall, distancing the Skoda Karoq (-30.7%) in difficulty. The VW Golf (+52.8%), Hyundai Tucson (+14.3%) and Kia Ceed (+2.9%) also post very satisfying gains in the remainder of the Top 10. The Hyundai Bayon (#24) is up 7 ranks on August to remain the best-selling recent launch.
