Austria September 2021: Skoda Enyaq on podium, Opel Mokka #4 in market off -19.4%

The Skoda Enyaq ranks #3 in Austria in September.

The Austrian new car market drops -19.4% year-on-year in September to 17.864 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up just 5.1% to 189.881 units. Brand leaders Volkswagen (-25.5%) and Skoda (-31.3%) reduce their share year-on-year, but Hyundai (-16.2%) rallies back up seven spots on last month to #3 overall with 7.4% share vs. 4.3% so far this year. BMW (+20.2%), Opel (+10.3%) and Kia (+20.4%) are the only gainers in the Top 10 just as Mercedes (-34.9%) and Ford (-32.1%) stall. Further down, Tesla (+26.6%) climbs 7 ranks on last month to #11 overall, with Cupra (+278.9%), MG (+240%), Maserati (+100%), DS (+70%), Lamborghini (+33.3%), Dacia (+13.9%), Suzuki (+3.1%) and Porsche (+2.7%) also in positive further down.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat 500 lineup (+6.8%) repeats at #1 and cements its year-to-date domination in the process, while the Dacia Sandero (+163.6%) shoots up to #2 with 2.3% share. The Skoda Enyaq is up 12 spots on August to land on the third step of the podium, easily a new ranking record beating its precious best of #8 hit last May. The Opel Mokka storms into the Top 5 at #4, the nameplate’s first appearance inside the Austrian Top 10 since May 2016 (#6). Contrary to most other European markets, the Tesla Model 3 (-29.5%) is actually down year-on-year this month in Austria, albeit still ranking at a splendid #5 above the VW Golf (-35.7%). For its part the Tesla Model Y breaks into the Austrian Top 10 for the first time at #7, distancing the VW ID.3 (#8) and ID.4 (#12). Notice also the Hyundai i20 (+48.3%) managing a rare appearance inside the Top 20.
