Argentina September 2021: Toyota (+39.6%), Mercedes (+76.8%) defy market back down -8.7%

The Toyota Hilux ranks #2 in Argentina in September.

New vehicle sales in Argentina return to negative territory in September at -8.7% to 31.681 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 22.6% to 303.370. Toyota (+39.6%) completely bucks the negative trend and posts the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 8 to easily stay on top of the brands ranking with 19% share, in line with its YTD level. Fiat (+8.6%) is also in positive in 2nd place but Volkswagen (-33%), Ford (-19%) and Renault (-30%) all struggle below. Mercedes (+76.8%) signs the biggest uptick in the Top 10 with Nissan (+35.4%) and Peugeot (+6.2%) also in great shape. Further down, Hyundai (+97.5%), Iveco (+58.6%), DS (+55.3%) and Chery (+23.7%) shine. Model-wise, the Fiat Cronos (+39.4%) comfortably stays in pole position with a strong 10.4% share, distancing three pickups: the Toyota Hilux (+8.3%), Ford Ranger (+24.2%) and VW Amarok (-14.5%). The Toyota Etios (-11.9%) rounds out the Top 5 while the Toyota Corolla (+137.6%) and Yaris (+44.6%) impress in the remainder of the Top 10. The VW Nivus (#14) is the best-selling recent launch above the Toyota Corolla Cross (#15), VW Taos (#18) and Renault Alaskan (#24).
