Kazakhstan August 2021: Chevrolet Cobalt now #1 year-to-date, sales slide -5.4%
The Chevrolet Cobalt is now #1 year-to-date in Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh new vehicle market recedes -5.4% year-on-year in August to 9.093 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 42.7% to 76.039. Chevrolet (+71.7%) goes against the grain as it was still gearing up its local operations a year ago and holds 24.2% share vs. 26.4% so far this year. Hyundai (-8%) and Toyota (-13.7%) both underperform to close out the podium. Excellent showing for Kia (+40.5%) albeit down one spot on July to #4. Lada (-56.4%) is in deep trouble at #5 while JAC (+3.2%) reaches its highest ranking since last February at #6. The rest of the Top 10 defy the negative context with double-digit gains: GAZ (+82.7%), Renault (+43.3%), Nissan (+34%) and Volkswagen (+24.1%) all post fantastic scores. Further down, notice BMW (+356%), Infiniti (+100%), Mercedes (+61.1%), Subaru (+44.9%) and Mitsubishi (+26.8%) all sturdy.
Over in the models ranking, the Chevrolet Cobalt (+97%) snaps the year-to-date pole position off the Chevrolet Nexia (+226.5%) thanks to a second consecutive month at #1. The Hyundai Accent (-9.8%) remains in their place as it also ranks year-to-date, while the Toyota Camry (-10.1%) and Kia Rio (+26.8%) swap spots to #4 and #5 respectively. Outstanding results by the Hyundai Sonata (+381.1%), GAZ Gazelle (+94%), Hyundai Elantra (+39.3%) and Lada Largus (+11.5%) in the remainder of the Top 10. The JAC J7 (#15) tops recent launches (<12 months) ahead of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 (#17) and Chevrolet Equinox (#22).
