Chile June 2021: Chevrolet Sail tops market up 24.8% on pre-pandemic, Chinese up to 25.9% share

The Chevrolet Sail is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in June.

The Chilean new light vehicle market is up 295.7% year-on-year in June to 35.499 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 74.1% to 178.856. Note June 2021 volumes are also up 24.8% on pre-pandemic June 2019, but down -4.4% year-to-date. Chevrolet (+202.6%) and Nissan (+267.6%) both trail the market but remain atop the brands charts with 10.3% and 7% share respectively. Suzuki (+225.1%) is up 6 spots on May to land on the third step of the podium while Toyota (+428.5%) and MG (+668.3%) vastly outpace the market to round out the Top 5. Chery (+2002.6%) and Volkswagen (+399.3%) also do so in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Volvo (+1060%), Opel (+769.4%), Maxus (+694%), Citroen (+612.6%), Fiat (+473.6%), Ssangyong (+451.1%), Renault (+416.3%), and Foton (+374.4%) are among the biggest gainers. As a whole, Chinese carmakers continue to expand their footprint with sales up 468.3% year-on-year to 25.9% share vs. 24.9% so far in 2021 (+130.5%).

Over in the models ranking, the Chevrolet Sail (+506.3%) shoots up 9 spots on May to land the pole position with 3.5%, displacing the leaders year-to-date, the MG ZS (+616.2%) and Chery Tiggo 2 (+3171.9%). The Mitsubishi L200 (+323.2%) remains in 4th place and tops the pickup charts just above the Maxus T60 (+608.8%) up three spots on May to #5. The Nissan Versa (+361.2%) stays at #6 above the Toyota Hilux (+343.6%) down four ranks and the Peugeot Partner (+247%) up five. Notice also the Toyota RAV4 up six spots on last month to #11, the MG3 up from outside the Top 20 to #12, the Suzuki S-Presso up to #15 and the Great Wall Poer up to #17. Meanwhile the Chevrolet Groove aka Baojun 510 is down 7 ranks to #14.
