UK nations May 2021: Hyundai Kona #1 in Northern Ireland, Ford Puma repeats at #1 in Wales

The Hyundai Kona is the best-selling vehicle in Northern Ireland in May.

Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in May. Keep in mind this is a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in our May 2021 UK update. Compared to a locked down market in May 2020, Northern Ireland once again fares the best at +2593.7% to 3.879 sales, with Scotland up 1061.3% to 13.088. Wales is up 665.8% to 5.246 and England up 635% to 134.087. Year-to-date, Scotland is the most dynamic at +69.6% to 59.043 followed by England at +41.1% to 622.453, Northern Ireland also up +41.1% to 16.773 and Wales up 24.5% to 23.707.

Each UK nation has a different leader in May. The VW Golf is #1 in England and #4 in Northern Ireland where it is now #1 year-to-date. The Vauxhall Corsa is #1 in Scotland and #2 in England and the Ford Puma repeats at #1 in Wales. Northern Ireland presents an unheard-of podium with the Hyundai Kona in the top spot for the very first time, followed by the Skoda Kamiq at a record #2 and the Ford Puma at #3. The Kona’s previous best in Northern Ireland was #7 in October while the Skoda Kamiq’s only other Top 10 appearance occurred in May 2020 (#9).

Other podium finishers are the Mercedes A-Class #2 in England, the Ford Fiesta #2 in Wales and #3 in Scotland and the MG ZS repeating at #3 in Wales. The Kia Sportage is up to #5 in Northern Ireland and the Toyota Yaris justifies its 8th spot in the UK by breaking into the Top 10 of 3 UK nations: #7 in Wales, #9 in Northern Ireland and #10 in England. Notice also the Audi A3 up to #8 in England, the Audi Q2 #9 in Scotland and the Vauxhall Crossland #9 in Wales.
