Ireland May 2021: Toyota places Corolla, Yaris and RAV4 in Top 4, sales down -6.1% on two years ago
The Toyota Corolla is the best-selling vehicle in Ireland in May.
New car sales in Ireland bounce back up 241.6% year-on-year in May to 5.947 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 17.8% to 61.132. However May sales are down -6.1% on two years ago in May 2019 (6.331) while the year-to-date volume is down -23% vs. 79.361 over the same period in 2019. All evolutions below are vs. May 2019. Volkswagen (–1.4%) edges down but retains the brands top spot with 13.4% share vs. 11.5% so far this year. Strikingly, the next five brands are all up vs. two years ago. Toyota (+23.5%), Skoda (+36.3%) and Hyundai (+15.9%) even post double-digit gains while Kia (+9.7%) and Ford (+7.5%) are also solid. BMW (-47%) dives at #8 while Seat (+1%) edges up. Notice also newcomer MG breaking into the Top 20 at #19 with 1% share.
Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (-8.3%) signs its first monthly win since last July and evolves roughly like the market. It distances the VW T-Roc (+155.6%) surging 33 spots on April to land at a record 2nd place. Toyota manages to place three nameplates inside the May Top 4 with the Yaris (+84.3%) and RAV4 (+46%) also in outstanding shape, as are the Skoda Octavia (+58.5%) and Hyundai Tucson (+43.2%) below. The Skoda Kodiaq (+23%) and Kia Sportage (+15.4%) also stand out in the remainder of the Top 10. The Dacia Sandero (+60.8%) is up 15 ranks on last month to #12, the Ford Puma is up 10 to #13 and the VW ID.4 remains the best-selling recent launch but drop 11 spots on last month to #15.
