Portugal April 2021: Renault Captur scores first ever win in market up 438.7% on 2020 but down -29.9% on 2019
The Renault Captur is #1 in Portugal for the first time.
New car sales in Portugal are up 438.7% year-on-year on a locked down April 2020 to 14.809 units but down -29.9% on April 2019. The year-to-date tally is now down -4.5% year-on-year to 45.848 and down a harsh -43.1% on two years ago. After three months of domination by Peugeot, Renault (+652.7%) reclaims the top spot for the month at 12% share vs. 8.9% so far this year. Peugeot (+404.8%) is knocked down to #2 but remains by far in the year-to-date lead while Renault stays at #3. BMW (+361%) is up two spots on March to #3, Citroen (+1581.9%) stays at #5 and Mercedes (+268.2%) is down three to #5. Volkswagen (+641.3%), Seat (+597.1%), Ford (+588%) and Fiat (+471%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
Over in the models ranking, the Renault Captur (+1763.8%) scores its first ever win in Portugal at 5.9% share and advances to #3 year-to-date vs. #4 over the Full Year 2019. The Citroen C3 (+2006.9%) follows in 2nd place, relegating the Peugeot 2008 (+619.7%) and 208 (+260.9%), leaders last month, to #3 and #4 respectively. The Mercedes A-Class (+310.8%) also drops two spots to #5. Annual leader for the past 8 consecutive years, the Renault Clio (+392.2% but -64.4% on two years ago) ranks at a paltry 6th place and is #7 year-to-date (-56.3%). The rest of the Top 10 all outpaces the surging market: the Fiat 500 (+2508.3%), Ford Fiesta (+2050%), Peugeot 3008 (+1240.9%) and BMW 1 Series (+670.4%) all post extravagant gains. The Citroen C4 (#20) is the best-selling recent launch above the Mercedes EQA (#61) and VW ID.3 (#68).
