Denmark April 2021: Citroen C3 leads, BMW X1 surges in market up 52.2%

The Danish new car market is up 52.2% year-on-year in April to 15.526 units, tilting the year-to-date tally into positive territory at +0.6% and 59.423 sales. Volkswagen (+28.2%) significantly trails the market but remains the most popular carmaker in the country at 11.1% share vs. 10.4% so far this year. The hero of the month is BMW (+287.8%) surging almost 4-fold year-on-year and up 4 spots on last month to #2 with 9.4% share vs. 7.5% year-to-date. #2 so far this year, Peugeot (+25.3%) is knocked down to #3 for the month, distancing a very dynamic Citroen (+85.4%). Ford (+86.7%), Kia (+68%) and Hyundai (+66.7%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Notice also newcomers MG (#19) and Cupra (#24) sliding into the Top 25 like last month.
Model-wise, the Citroen C3 (+86%) snaps a third ever win in Denmark after October 2019 and May 2020, holding 4.2% of the market vs. 3.5% so far this year. 14 units below is last month’s winner the Ford Kuga (+356.4%) still lifted by the new generation and its green variant. Leader last year and year-to-date, the Peugeot 208 (+47%) falls to third place for the month above a surging BMW X1 (+795.7%). The Opel Corsa (+137.4%), BMW 3 Series (+106.1%) and VW T-Roc (+53.8%) also beat the market inside the Top 10. The VW ID.4 remains the most popular recent launch (<12 months) but drops outside the Top 10 at #14, it is followed by the MG eHS (#30) and VW ID.3 (#38).
