Under the direct impact of an economic meltdown, the Covid-19 crisis and the aftermath of the Beirut explosion, the Lebanese new car market freefalls -66.5% year-on-year in 2020 to just 10.741 units. Toyota (-78%) falls even faster to see its market share thaw from 36.1% in 2019 to 23.7% this year, still enough to secure the brands pole position however. Nissan (-59.9%) and Kia (-65.8%) manage to slightly outpace the market in the remainder of the podium, while Mitsubishi (+45%) completely ignores the depressed context and shoots up 6 spots to #4. Suzuki (-52.5%), Lexus (-56.9%) and Renault (-58.1%) also resist somewhat. For its first full year in market, Chinese carmaker MG (+270.4%) lands directly inside the Top 10 brands at #10 and 2.4% share.
Over in the models ranking, the Nissan Patrol (-56.6%) snaps the top spot, dislodging its archenemy the Toyota Land Cruiser (-84.5%) at 7.4% share vs. 6.7%, while the Toyota Yaris (-57.9%) gains three spots to #3. The Mitsubishi L200 (+158.3%) shoots up 38 ranks to land in 4th place, distancing the Nissan Micra (-38.5%) and Kia Rio (-32.4%) also improving their ranking significantly on their 2019 level. The Nissan Kicks (-24.5%) breaks into the Top 10 at #9.
