Iraq Full Year 2020: Kia and Frontier tighten grip on market down -18.1%, Chevrolet up 55%

Iraqi new car sales drop -18.1% year-on-year to 63.692 units in 2020. This market remains dominated by Kia (-2.5%) which improves its share by 7.5 percentage points this year, going from 39.7% to 47.2%. In 2nd place, Toyota (+8.5%) overtakes Hyundai (-45.3%) thanks to the only year-on-year gain in the Top 5. Jeep (-16.8%) also outpaces the market and advances to #4, passing Nissan (-23.9%). Chevrolet (+55%) posts the best gain in the Top 15 and lifts two spots to #6. Two new Chinese carmakers have entered the Iraqi market in 2020 and they both already rank inside the Top 10: Changan is #8 with 1.3% share and MG is #9 with 1.1%.

Model-wise, the Kia Frontier (+22%) continues to dominate, improving its market share further from 15% to 22.4%. The Kia Sorento (-18.4%) roughly matches the market and is rewarded with the 2nd place overall at 11.8% share, eclipsing the Hyundai Tucson (-45.8%) at 9.3%. The Toyota Hilux (+12.6%) advances three spots on last year to #4, despatching the Kia Sportage (-10.5%) and Hyundai Elantra (-55.6%). The Toyota Corolla (+103.1%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year and gains 6 spots to break into the Top 10 at #10. The Chevrolet Captiva (#12) is the best-selling 2020 launch in Iraq ahead of the Kia Seltos (#21), Changan Alsvin (#25), Hyundai Reina (#29) and MG T60 (#30).
