With year-ago volumes still damaged by the consequences of the typhoons that battered the country then, the Japanese new car market gains 6.7% year-on-year in November to 411.601 sales. This brings the year-to-date tally down -13% to 4.218.719. Brand leader Toyota (+11.8%) widens the gap with the rest of the brands thanks to a splendid double-digit uptick taking it to exactly one-third of its home market at 33.3% share. Suzuki (+3.6%) is back up to the 2nd spot it holds YTD, nudging Daihatsu (+0.6%) down to #3. Honda (+16.2%) and Lexus (+12.9%) are the two additional double-digit gainers in the Top 10 while Subaru (+6.7%) and Nissan (+6.1%) match the market. Below, notice Ferrari (+160%), Land Rover (+50.5%), Peugeot (+47.5%), Alfa Romeo (+44.5%), Fiat (+36.4%), Citroen (+35.8%), Jeep (+27.2%) and Mini (+21%) all securing spectacular lifts.
In the regular cars ranking, Toyota monopolises the Top 7 (up from Top 6 in October), with the Yaris at #1 just under 20.000 sales – a figure which we believe includes the new Yaris Cross. It is followed by the Raize (+42%), Alphard (+75.9%), Harrier (+461.7%) all very strong, then the Corolla (-9.8%), Roomy (+27.8%) and Sienta (-30.4%). In fact, the Honda Fit (+129%) and Freed (+6.5%) are the only non-Toyota nameplates in the Top 13, making it 11 Toyotas among the country’s 13 most popular regular cars. Other great performers in the Top 50 include the Honda Civic (+516.8%), Subaru Levorg (+222.8%), Honda CR-V (+123.1%), Mazda CX-3 (+118.2%), Honda Odyssey (+113.4%), Toyota Land Cruiser W (+104.1%) and Suzuki Jimny Wagon (+87%) while the Mazda MX-30 reaches a record #46.
The Honda N-BOX (-16.6%), Suzuki Spacia (-6.2%) and Daihatsu Tanto (-49.8%) dominate the kei cars charts despite losses, while the Daihatsu Move (+47.3%), Suzuki Hustler (+33.6%), Nissan Roox (#5) and Daihatsu Taft (#7) impress in the remainder of the Top 10. The Honda N-WGN (+4622.3%), N-ONE (+163.8%) and Suzuki Jimny (+119.6%) shine further down.
