05/10 update: Now with Top 10 models YTD.
Luxembourg new car sales return to negative territory in August at -3.7% to 3.671 units after posting a 14.9% surge in July, leading to a year-to-date tally down -24.6% to 29.973. BMW soars 76.8% year-on-year to snap the brands pole position for the third time in the past 9 months after last December and January – as it does in neighbouring Belgium as well. Mercedes (+1%) is up two spots on last month to #2, with Audi (+27.7%) and Skoda (+91.7%) also scoring fantastic gains at #3 and #4 respectively. This means the YTD leader Volkswagen (-51.1%) crumbles down 4 spots on July to a paltry 5th place with 6.1% share vs. 11.5% so far in 2020. Opel (+9.7%) is the only additional Top 10 brand in positive, while further down Tesla (+152.6%), Mini (+88.9%), Nissan (+42.2%), Alfa Romeo (+36.4%) and Jaguar (+31.8%) make waves. Chinese-owned Borgward posts 15 sales this month out of 18 so far this year, shooting up to #31.
