Syria 7 months 2020: Kia overtakes Hyundai in devastated market (-68%)
Kia overtakes Hyundai as the best-selling carmaker in Syria.
New car sales in Syria have come to a stop over the past few months, with the YTD tally as of end July down an abysmal -68% to 1.437. There were zero sales in April vs. 595 in April 2019 (-100%), 84 in May vs. 536 last year (-84.3%), 83 in June vs. 673 (-87.7%) and 61 in July vs. 828 (-92.6%). Only two carmakers continue to sell new cars in Syria and this year Kia (-53.7%) overtakes sister brand Hyundai (-75.8%) at 51.3% share vs. 48.7%. However two Hyundais top the models charts: the Tucson (-75.4%) at 23% share and relaunched Elantra at 20.6%. The Kia Cerato (-52.8%) rounds up the podium above the Kia Sorento (-29%) and Sportage (-40.9%). The new Hyundai Reina lands at #7.
