Netherlands July 2020: BMW (+70.5%), Renault (+46.7%) help tilt market back into positive (+4%)

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe already ranks inside the Dutch Top 50.

New car sales in the Netherlands manage their first year-on-year gain since last February at +4% in July to 34.885 units, with the year-to-date tally now down -25.7% to 192.868. Volkswagen (-16.6%) remains the most popular brand by far at 11.7% but endures the steepest fall in the Top 7. In contrast, BMW (+70.5%) scores the largest gain in the Top 20 and soars 6 spots on June to land in 2nd place with 7.8% share vs. 6.2% so far in 2020. Kia (+25.4%) is knocked down to #3 while Renault (+46.7%), Skoda (+34.3%), Volvo (+30.4%) and Peugeot (+9.5%) also post fantastic gains in the remainder of the Top 10. Opel (-35.2%) and Toyota (-27.1%) fall apart. Further down, Porsche (+270.9%), Ferrari (+200%), Bentley (+166.7%), Fiat (+75.3%), Honda (+50%), Land Rover (+43.8%), Smart (+25%), Mini (+23.9%), Mazda (+17.4%) and Nissan (+14.4%) stand out. Newcomers MG (#20) and Polestar (#35) climb up.

Model-wise, the VW Polo (-0.1%) rallies back up to pole position for the first time since January, toppling the Kia Niro (+80.2%) which however remains #1 YTD for now. Leader last month, the Opel Corsa (+615.4%) continues to evolve spectacularly better than the previous generation last year and ranks #3 in July just as the BMW 1 Series (+268.6%), Peugeot 208 (+239.4%), Volvo XC40 (+139.4%), Hyundai Kona (+78.7%) and Skoda Kodiaq (+57.5%) all post surreal gains in the remainder of the Top 10. The MG ZS (#16) tops all recent launches (<12 months) and distances the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (#41), Mazda CX-30 (#50), Skoda Kamiq (#80), Kia Xceed (#93), Mercedes GLB (#142) and Land Rover Defender (#153).
