Pakistan June 2020: Toyota Yaris leaps to #2 in market off -50.2%
The Toyota Yaris is now also made in Pakistan.
According to data released by PAMA, sales of locally-made light vehicles drop another -50.2% year-on-year in June to 8.753 units, pulling the year-to-date tally down -63% to just 44.475. This is a fair representation of the total Pakistani market as very high taxes make imports negligible. Both Suzuki (-59.1%) down to 44.7% share vs. 47.5% in H1 and Toyota (-52.7%) down to 28.9% vs. 31.9% fall even faster than the market, with Honda (-21.7%) up to 22.9% of the market vs. 18.5% so far in 2020. The Suzuki Alto (-1.7%) celebrates one year in market by cementing its pole position in the models ranking at 18.9% share but the Toyota Corolla (-80.6%) remains the best-seller year-to-date for now at 23.4% share vs. 16.3% for the Alto. The reason behind the Corolla’s imploding is the arrival of the Yaris in Toyota Pakistan’s factory, up 5 spots on May to #2 with 13.3% share in June and almost 1.200 units sold.
