Greece April 2020: Toyota places 3 models in Top 4, C-HR up to record #2 in market down -80.2%

The Toyota C-HR breaks its Greek ranking record for the 2nd straight month.

Greece initiated a nationwide lockdown on March 23 and remained under the strictest movement restrictions all through April, starting to ease on May 4 when small retail shops and hair salons were allowed to open. The country has been one of a handful of success stories in Europe, with just 2.836 cases confirmed as of May 18. April new car sales collapse -80.2% year-on-year to 2.434 units, pulling the year-to-date tally down -38.3% to 23.824.

Toyota (-67%) continues to resist better than the market and remains at an unusually high 18.8% share vs. 15.1% so far in 2020. Peugeot (-83.8%) is up two spots on March to #2, Opel (-79.3%) up five to #3 and Audi (-58.8%) up nine to #4 and 7.2% share vs. 3.5% YTD. BMW (-51.1%) and Mercedes (-77.7%) are the only additional Top 10 brands outpacing the market just as Suzuki (-87.6%), Volkswagen (-87.2%) and Nissan (-82.9%) tumble down. Among smaller brands, Jeep (+800%), Abarth (stable), Lexus (-11.1%), Porsche (-45.5%), Mini (-52.6%) and Volvo (-59.8%) stand out.

Model-wise, Toyota secures a 1-2 for the second consecutive month, this time with the Yaris (-75.2%) and C-HR (-34.3%) up to a record 2nd place, breaking its Greek ranking record for the 2nd straight month after reaching #8 in March. The Opel Corsa (-78.2%) rounds out the podium and is the only additional nameplate selling over 100 units in April. The VW T-Cross (+8.7%), Toyota Corolla (-29.7%), and Audi Q3 (-58.4%) also shine in the Top 10.
