Syria Q1 2020: Hyundai down -52%, Kia up 3.5% in market down -34.9%

The Kia Cerato teases the Hyundai Tucson for the Syrian top spot.

The Syrian new car market continues to be decimated by the war that rages in the country, with Q1 2020 volumes down another -34.9% to just 1.209 units. Only two brands remain present in this market: Hyundai (-52%) in complete freefall to 51% share vs. 70.9% over FY2019 and sister marque Kia (+3.5%) improving to 49% share vs. 29% over FY2019. Model-wise, the Hyundai Tucson (-62.1%) remains leader for now at 26.3% share but the Kia Cerato (+52.1%) is catching up at 21% and the Hyundai Elantra returns directly in third place with 20.3% share. These three nameplates account for over two-thirds of all vehicles registered in Syria so far in 2020 (67.6%). Notice also the Hyundai Reina making its entrance into the charts at #7 with 3.6% share.
