Chile February 2020: MG ZS snaps world first #1, MG breaks into Top 10, Chinese above 20% share for first time in market down -10.3%
The MG ZS is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in February.
20/04 update: Now with Top 25 models.
New light vehicle sales in Chile drop -10.3% year-on-year to 25.025 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -11.4% to 57.129. Chevrolet (-6.7%) contains its fall to easily remain in the brands pole position at 10.4% share, distancing Kia (-14.2%) and Suzuki (-13.4%) while Hyundai (+1.4%) and Nissan (-4.1%) resist even better. The hero of the month is MG (+150.3%) shooting up 3 spots on January to break into the monthly Chilean Top 10 brands for the first time in history at #8. In fact like last month Chinese carmakers as a whole continue to evolve at record heights, up 19.4% to cross the symbolic 20% market share threshold for the very first time at 20.1%. Indeed Changan (+14.2%), Brilliance (+196.8%) and Geely (+21.2%) are among the very rare gainers in the Top 60 brands, joined by Citroen (+15.3%) and Opel (+16.7%).
We have a surprise new leader in the models ranking: the MG ZS (+181%) surges 7 spots on January to land at #1, in all likelihood the first time the ZS tops any country’s sales charts. Leader in January, the Suzuki Baleno (+25.2%) drops to #1 but holds onto the YTD top spot while the 2019 leader, the Mitsubishi L200 (-16.5%) rounds out the February podium. The Hyundai Accent (+52.9%), Nissan NP300 (+42.2%) and Chevrolet Sail (+3%) also manage gains in the remainder of the Top 10.
