It’s a second consecutive year of double-digit decline in Lebanon with 2019 volumes down a steep -19.5% to just 32.033 units. Toyota (+27.5%) goes completely against the grain with a tremendous year-on-year gain, improving its share from an already commanding 22.8% in 2018 to 36.1% this year. That’s almost 2.5 times the score of Nissan (-32.7%) hit full frontal in 2019 as is Kia (-40.2%), the latter two brands however camping on their podium finish. Lexus (+69.8%) is the only other gainer in the Top 20, leaping from #12 to #8. Meanwhile Mitsubishi (-44%), Renault (-41.8%), Hyundai (-40.5%), Chevrolet (-38.8%) and Suzuki (-27.1%) all fall much faster than the market in the remainder of the Top 10 just as Honda (-3.9%) contains its loss. Opel (+162.8%), Datsun (+63.4%) and Genesis (+50%) post market-defying gains and MG lands at #25.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+146.6%) spectacularly snaps the pole position for the first time in at least 7 years, shooting up from just 4.8% share and #3 in 2018 to 12.1% of the market this year. The Toyota Prado (+21.4%) is up 4 spots to #2, both aforementioned nameplates overtaking last year’s leader the Nissan Patrol (-37.5%), with the Kia Picanto (-21.4%) and Toyota Corolla (+7.2%) rounding out the Top 5. The Lexus LX (+73.8%) surges 13 ranks to break into the Top 10 at #10 while the Toyota Hilux (+68.4%) soars 18 spots to #11 and the Nissan X-Trail (+11.5%) is up 4 to #7, managing the only additional double-digit gain in the Top 22. The Cadillac XT4 (#60) is the most popular 2019 launch above the Honda HR-V (#70) and Chevrolet Blazer (#89).
