The Chilean new light vehicle market dives a steep -10.6% in 2019 to 372.878 units, still the third largest annual volume in the country below last year and 2013. All segments are down but pickups resist best at -5.7% to 62.136 and 18.9% share vs. 15.8% a year ago, with SUV (-7.3%) also gaining share at 36.8% vs. 35.5% thanks to 137.303 sales. In contrast, vans (-14.9%) drop to 31.722 units and 8.5% share vs. 8.9% and passenger cars (-14.5%) also implode to 141.717 and 38% share vs. 39.8% a year ago.

Chevrolet (-2.1%) manages the slimmest drop in the Top 8 and cements its lead in the brands ranking at 9.5% share. Hyundai (-13.5%) and Kia (-13.6%) both gain one spot despite falling frankly faster than the market, taking advantage of a particularly harsh year for Suzuki (-16.1%). Peugeot (-6.9%) is the only additional Top 8 carmaker to fall by the single-digits while Mitsubishi (+5%) posts the only gain in the Top 12 at #8. Further down, Chinese carmakers monopolise almost all gains in the remainder of the Top 40 with MG (+55.1%), Brilliance (+30%), Maxus (+21.8%), the Great Wall Group (+16.1%), Changan (+14%), JAC (+5.3%) and Dongfeng (+2.3%) vs. only non-Chinese carmaker: Opel (+58.4%). As a whole, Chinese carmakers gain 6.7% to see their share improve from 12.9% to 15.4%.

The Mitsubishi L200 (-6.7%) manages a third consecutive year atop the Chilean models ranking, distancing the Chevrolet Sail (-9.3%) and Kia Rio (-9.6%) like in 2018. The performer of the year is the Suzuki Baleno (+35%), surging up 8 spots to #4 and toppling the Kia Morning (-14.9%) and Toyota Hilux (-16.9%). The Nissan Versa (+2.7%) is up 7 ranks to #15, and the MG ZS (#16), Suzuki Alto (#22) and JAC S2 (#25) make their entrance inside the annual Chilean Top 25.
