Portugal November 2019: Renault Clio ends Mercedes A-Class domination, Captur and Fiat Tipo shoot up

The Renault Captur is back on the Portuguese podium.

New car sales in Portugal gain 5.8% year-on-year in November to 16.400 units, leading to a year-to-date tally now down -2.9% to 206.073. Renault (+6.7%) is back above Peugeot (+19%) atop the brands ranking while BMW (+27.2%) continues to progress, dislodging Mercedes (+3%) from the podium with a splendid 8% share vs. 6.1% so far this year. Fiat (+78.7%) and Seat (+32.3%) are also in outstanding shape just below, whereas Citroen (-15.8%), Ford (-13.1%) and Volkswagen (-7.7%) take a hit in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Jeep (+207.9%), Hyundai (+72.6%), Audi (+52%) and Smart (+16.3%) also impress with spectacular gains.

Model-wise, the Renault Clio (-8.9%) in back in control as is the case YTD, ending a pretty surreal four consecutive months of domination by the Mercedes A-Class (-2.6%) helped by leading deals. The Renault Captur (+17%) is back up 14 spots to return to the #3 ranking it holds YTD, while the Fiat Tipo (+312.4%) shoots up 8 ranks to #4, its third Top 5 appearance in the past 6 months. Strikingly, the next 7 best-sellers all post spectacular gains, dominated by the BMW 3 Series (+224.8%) scoring a 2nd straight Top 10 finish, the Peugeot 208 (+63.9%), Renault Megane (+57.1%), Peugeot 308 (+49.4%), BMW 1 Series (+37.8%), Peugeot 3008 (+26.7%) and Fiat 500 (+23.3%), The VW T-Cross (#35) is down 10 spots on October but still easily tops recent launches above the Mazda CX-30 (#61).
