Hong Kong (China) September 2019: Tesla up to #2 with 14.9% share as Model 3 lands
The Tesla Model 3 has landed in Hong Kong.
New light vehicle sales in Hong Kong only edge down -0.6% year-on-year in September to 3.116 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -5.6% to 29.014. Toyota (+1.5%) easily remains the most popular brand in the territory with 29.7% share vs. 32.7% so far this year, but the big news this month is Tesla (+2220%) storming up 29 spots on August to land directly in 2nd place overall with 14.9% share, marking the (late) arrival of the Model 3 in Hong Kong. Mercedes (-29.9%) is knocked down one spot to #3 as is BMW (+41.6%) to #4 despite a fantastic year-on-year gain. Suzuki (+150%) and Kia (+20.2%) also impress in the Top 10 but Volkswagen (-50%), Honda (-25.1%) and Lexus (-18.5%) all implode.
Previous month: Hong Kong (China) August 2019: Nissan and Kia resist in market down -16.2%
