Lebanon Q3 2019: Toyota Land Cruiser and Prado top worsening market (-20.1%)

Lebanese Toyota Prado sales are up 146.4% year-on-year in Q3.

The Lebanese new car market isn’t out of the woods just yet, and by a large margin: Q3 deliveries sink -20.1% year-on-year to just 8.644 units, hampering the YTD tally now down -11.2% to 27.967. Whereas the remainder of the Top 7 all implode by the double-digits, Toyota (+51.6%) stuns with the only year-on-year gain – let alone such a significant one – to cements its domination with 36.6% share. Nissan (-51.9%), Kia (-38.4%), Hyundai (-36.2%) and Suzuki (-40%) complete the Top 5 but fall much faster than the market. Chevrolet (+18.6%) gains market share while Lexus (+16.5%) and Land Rover (+4.7%) are the only two additional Top 10 carmakers in positive. Further down, Datsun (+1950%), Opel (+281.8%), Isuzu (+134.9%), and GMC (+63%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+579.5%) is up a spectacular 7-fold year-on-year in Q3 to hold a massive 15.7% share and cement its YTD pole position at 13.8%. The Toyota Prado (+146.4%) also stuns and steps up to #2 over Q3, toppling the Nissan Patrol (-62.6%), leader over the Full Year 2018 but now in total freefall. The Kia Picanto (-11.9%) is faithful to the #4 spot it holds YTD and tops passenger car sales, distancing the Toyota Corolla (+4.6%), Hyundai i10 (-25.1%), Toyota Yaris (-55.6%) and Nissan Micra (-51.89%), all city cars. The Toyota Hilux (+82.6%) lurches into the Top 10 at #9 over Q3 vs. #29 over FY2018, with the Chevrolet Aveo (+82.2%) and Lexus LX (+39.1%) also shining in the Top 20. The Honda HR-V (#34) is the #1 recent launch above the Chevrolet Blazer (#48) and Cadillac XT4 (#58) and Kai Pegas (#64).
