Ireland August 2019: Audi (+41.8%), Seat (+16.8%), Hyundai (+11.5%) strong in market down -13.4%

The new Q3 (+406.3%) helps Audi up 41.8% in Ireland in August.

New car sales in Ireland logically drop -13.4% year-on-year in August to 5.127 as year-ago figures were inflated by pre-WLTP rush-sales, but this leads to a year-to-date tally now down -7.9% to 110.565. Volkswagen (-12.4%) reclaims the top spot it holds YTD despite a market-matching double-digit loss, while Skoda (-2.6%) contains its fall and leaps up two spot on July to #2. Ford (-23.7%) is in great difficulty but back up to #3 while Audi (+41.8%) posts the largest gain in the Top 15 and shoots up 6 spots on last month to #6, Seat (+16.8%) and Hyundai (+11.5%) also outstanding in the Top 10 where Nissan (-50%), Toyota (-27%) and Peugeot (-19.9%) implode.

Model-wise, the Hyundai Tucson (+29.7%) soars year-on-year to edge past the Toyota Corolla (-16.3%) by just 4 sales. The Corolla (+113.1%) however remains #1 YTD almost 500 sales above the Tucson (-5.3%) which had held the #1 annual spot for the past 3 consecutive years. The Skoda Octavia (+8.1%) climbs onto the podium, with the Ford Kuga (+104.2%), Hyundai Kona (+26.8%), Skoda Kodiaq (+10.6%) and VW Polo (+10.5%) also in great shape in the remainder of the Top 10 unlike the Ford Focus (-64.3%), VW Golf (-59.2%) and Tiguan (-20.8%). The VW T-Cross is up 21 spots to remain the best-selling new launch ahead of the Citroen C5 Aircross (#49), Toyota Camry (#53) and Peugeot Rifter (#55).
