Almost brand-new Toyota Camry taxi at Dubai Airport.
I had the opportunity to take an extra-quick drive in Dubai during a layover at the Airport, here are a few snapshots. As it as 3am when I “visited”, there wasn’t much traffic in town, and the few observations I made of the local car landscapes were the ubiquitous Toyota Innova (airport) and Camry (city) taxis roaming the highways, as well as an inordinate amount of new generation Mercedes G-Class.
Burj Khalifa and Toyota Camry taxis: that’s Dubai by night for you.
An interesting fact in Dubai: Uber taxis are twice as expensive as traditional taxis here, with a 12 minute-ride from the Airport to the Burj Khalifa – the highest building in the world at 829.8 m (2,722 ft) – costing 83AED with Uber (US$22.60 or 20.35€) but only 38.50AED in a normal vehicle (US$10.50 or 9.45€). Keep that in mind if you are visiting soon.
Dubai car landscape.
The Chinese have already made their mark on the Dubai car landscape, with one Geely X7 Sport (aka Boyue) spotted and pictured above. Lastly, taxis are renewed very often in Dubai, with my ride (main picture in this article) only 4 months old at the time of visit which was July 2019.
