Uruguay June 2019: Suzuki (+98.2%) tops first market gain in 18 months (+9.1%)
The Suzuki Alto and Renault Kwid are among the best-sellers in Uruguay.
New car sales in Uruguay finally end a ghastly 17 consecutive months of decline with a 9.1% year-on-year uptick in June to 3.296 registrations, meaning the year-to-date volume is now down -15.6% to 18.859. Suzuki (+98.2%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year and leaps 4 spots on May to snap the brands pole position for the first time since its 5 month-stint in the lead from August to December 2018. Volkswagen (-13.1%) is knocked down to #2 and goes against the grain, posting one of only 3 drops in the Top 10 alongside Nissan (-7.5%) and Hyundai (-29.2%). In contrast, Citroen (+73.3%), Toyota (+58.7%), Fiat (+35.6%), Renault (+35.1%) and Peugeot (+13.3%) all outpace the market in the reminder of the Top 10. Dongfeng (+214.3%) cements its domination among Chinese manufacturers, distancing Chana (+340%), FAW (-29.6%) and Great Wall (-60%).
