Ireland June 2019: Opel Astra leads, Hyundai up 248.9% in third straight market lift (+12.6%)

The Opel Astra is the best-selling vehicle in Ireland in June.

New car sales in Ireland traditionally fall to a trickle in June just before mid-year licence plates are released in July. However this month’s result marks an encouraging third consecutive year-on-year gain at +12.6% to 1.407 units, reducing the year-to-date loss ever so slightly at -7.4% to 80.708. Toyota (+30.6%), Opel (+38.6%) and most strikingly Hyundai (+248.9%) post spectacular gains in the Top 4, surrounding Volkswagen (+9.4%) down 2 spots on last month and its YTD ranking to #3. Renault (+165%), Land Rover (+57.1%), BMW (+38.5%), Audi (+25%) and Peugeot (+20.9%) also shine. Model-wise, the Opel Astra (+295.2%) snaps a rare win ahead of last month’s leader the Toyota Corolla (+300%), June 2018’s leader the Opel Corsa (-11.7%), the Skoda Octavia (+19.2%) and Hyundai Tucson (+400%). The rest of the Top 10 all outpace the market, led by the Hyundai Kona (+440%), Nissan Micra (+113%), Toyota C-HR (+64.3%), VW Tiguan (+54.2%) and VW Golf (+28.9%). The Skoda Scala (#25) is up a whopping 153 spots on May to top new launches.
