China LCV May 2019: Foton (+8%), JAC (+15%) shine in market down -15%

The Foton Light Truck teases the Wuling Mini Truck for the #1 LCV spot this month.

Whereas it had managed to hold up extremely well so far this year, the Chinese Light Commercial Vehicle market falls off a cliff in May at -15% to just 250.843 units, tilting the year-to-date tally into negative territory at -1% to 1.375.456. No stranger to this sudden freefall, Wuling (-26%) is in great difficulty this month even though it easily retains the brands lead, whereas Foton (+8%) goes against the grain with a sturdy uptick. Below Changan (-13%) and Dongfeng (-7%), JAC (+15%) posts the largest year-on-year gain among the Top 10 brands. Below, it’s a true hecatomb, with Jinbei (-39%), CNHTC (-33%), Great Wall (-29%) and Maxus (-29%) the hardest hit. Model-wise, the Wuling Mini Truck (-7%) is down despite the new generation and holds onto the top spot by the skin of its teeth (less than 300 units) above the Foton Light Truck (+13%) in excellent shape.
