Romania May 2019: Peugeot (+109.7%), VW (+45.5%) shine in market up 12.6%

Peugeot sales soar 109.7% in Romania in May.

New car sales in Romania leap up 12.6% year-on-year in May to 13.011 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 20.3% to 57.538. Homegrown leader Dacia (+5.5%) fails to match the market growth, resulting in a weak 25.3% share vs. 30.6% YTD. Volkswagen (+45.5%) and Skoda (+4.1%) both overtake Renault (+36%), and Skoda passes Ford (-12.7%) in the YTD order to #3. Peugeot (+109.7%), Opel (+25.5%) and Mercedes (+19.6%) also outpace the market in the Top 10 whereas Hyundai (-8%) is in difficulty. Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (+1%) and Duster (+10%) just cant match the market gain, but are followed by 6 nameplates that outrace it, with the VW Polo (+214.6%) and Renault Clio (+87.6%) the most dynamic and the Nissan Qashqai (+35.4%), Skoda Rapid (+21.7%) and Octavia (+14.8%) also impressive. The VW T-Cross (#66) is now the most popular new launch (<12 months) ahead of the Audi Q8 (#77).
