Ireland May 2019: BMW (+194.6%) stuns, Toyota Corolla #1 again in recovery market (+4.2%)

The 3 Series (+419.4%) helps BMW up 194.6% in Ireland in May.

The Irish new car market is showing signs of recovery with May marking the 2nd consecutive year-on-year gain at +4.2% to 6.331, meaning the year-to-date volume is now down -7.6% at 79.361. Volkswagen (+18.4%) brilliantly reclaims the brands top spot it holds year-to-date off Toyota (-17.3%) stepping up to #2 in 2019 while BMW (+194.6%) is the hero of the month with sales tripling year-on-year. Renault (+21.9%) and Kia (+8.1%) also beat the market in the Top 10. Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+126.4%) confirms it is the country’s new favourite with a third consecutive win but remains #3 YTD for now. It distances the VW Tiguan (+41.8%), Opel Corsa (+245.3%), VW Golf (+17.1%) and Ford Focus (+36.1%) with the BMW 3 Series (+419.4%), 5 Series (+117.8%), Skoda Kodiaq (+113.2%) and Hyundai Kona (+110.6%) also posting spectacular gains in the Top 15.
