Luxembourg January 2019: BMW X5 on podium, Volvo XC40 in Top 10 in market down 3.4%
The new generation lifts the BMW X5 to #3 in Luxembourg in January.
The Luxembourg new car market drops 3.4% year-on-year in 4.205 registrations. Volkswagen snaps the brands pole position by the skin of its teeth at 11% share, only 10 sales above BMW (10.8%) and 37 above Mercedes (10.2%), reproducing the FY2018 podium. Peugeot is up two spots on its FY2018 ranking to #4, overtaking Audi and Renault, with Ford, Skoda, Volvo and Opel rounding out the Top 10. Dacia is up to #14 vs. #19 in FY2018, DS is up to #19 vs. #28 and Lamborghini up to #32 vs. #40. Borgward re-enters the ranking at #38 with 3 sales. Model-wise, the VW Golf (-37.9%) holds onto the top spot despite a ghastly loss, distancing the Mercedes A-Class (+113.7%) while the BMW X5 (+155.2%) makes its first appearance in the monthly Top 10 directly at a stunning third place. Other great performers include the Ford Transit/Tourneo (+500%) at #4 and Volvo XC40 (+2100%) at #8, making Luxembourg the second country in the world to welcome the small premium crossover in its Top 10 after Sweden.
