Iceland is back on BSCB after a two-year hiatus, but the market suffers a harsh drop in 2018 at -16.1% to 17.866 registrations vs. 21.287 in 2017. Toyota continues to dominate the brands ranking head and shoulders at 16.2% share, distancing Kia (11.2%), Hyundai (8.4%), Nissan (6.4%) and Volkswagen (5.9%), the only other carmakers sporting a four-digit volume for the year. Below Mazda at #6, Mitsubishi improves spectacularly at #7 with Ford, Renault and Suzuki rounding out the Top 10.
Thanks to one of our readers Ingólfur we now have exclusive access to the Top 100 models. The Mitsubishi Outlander leads with over 1.000 sales but the Toyota Yaris is the true #1 as its Hybrid variant is weirdly counted separately and when added up it passes the Yaris by 30 units. The Toyota RAV4 and Land Cruiser make it a fantastic 3 Toyotas in the Icelandic Top 4 this year. The Dacia Duster and Kia Sportage are the other two SUV making it into the Top 8, with the Hyundai i10, i20, VW Golf and Skoda Octavia also shining.
In the private sales channel, this time the Mitsubishi Outlander is way above the competition, more than double the volumes of the Toyota RAV4 and VW Golf which complete the podium just above the Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Leaf. The Mazda CX-3 scores a stunning 9th place just above the Volvo XC60, with the Peugeot 3008, Toyota C-HR and Hyundai i20 also cracking the Top 20.
