Argentina February 2019: Renault takes the lead in market down 41.8%

Renault is the most popular carmaker in Argentina in February.

The Argentinean new vehicle market endures a scathing 9th straight month of double-digit declines in February at -41.8% to 39.826 units, leading to a year-to-date volume imploding down 46.8% to 99.670. For the third time in the past 7 months after last August and November, Renault (-36.1%) takes the lead of the Argentinean brands ranking, eclipsing Volkswagen (-46.4%) and Toyota (-31.5%). The rest of the Top 7 all fall even faster than the market, with Chevrolet (-53.6%), Peugeot (-49%), Fiat (-47.3%) and Ford (-45.1%) all struggling mightily. At #10, Honda (+14.5%) posts the only year-on-year gain among the Top 33 brands and is one of only 3 brands managing to improve year-on-year alongside Isuzu (+66.7%) and Foton (+28.6%). Volvo is stable, and Shineray (#27), Great Wall (#31), JAC (#32) and Lexus (#35) are all new for this year. Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-26.4%) stays on tip ahead of the Ford Ka (-9.2%), both model resisting much better than the market and distancing the Toyota Etios (-49.9%), Chevrolet Onix (-53.7%) and Renault Sandero (-35.6%). The Fiat Cronos (+318%) is the only gainer in the Top 20 alongside the Renault Duster (+15.7%) with the Toyota Yaris (+402.9%) landing at #21. The Renault Duster Oroch (-8.1%), Honda HR-V (-11%) and Fiat Argo (-18.6%) manage to contain their fall in the remainder of the Top 25.
