After three years of growth, the Singaporean new car market hits the brakes in 2018 with a 11.9% drop to 81.001 registrations. For the second time in the past 3 years, Honda (-6%) is the most popular carmaker in the country with a strong 18.6% share, overtaking Toyota (-28%) down from 20.8% share in 2017 to 17.1% this year. Mercedes (-11%), steps up one spot to land on the podium at #3, dislodging Mazda (-36%) down to #5. Hyundai (+87%) posts the largest gain in the Top 15 by far, surging 5 spots to #4. Only Audi (+13%), Peugeot (+3%) and Kia (+2%) are in positive in the remainder of the Top 15. Skoda (+7433%), Alfa Romeo (+317%), McLaren (+130%), Lamborghini (+111%) and Rolls Royce (+24%) shine further down. Model-wise, the Mazda3 webpage url on the Mazda Singapore website still reads “Singapore’s favourite model” but there is no mention of the feat on the actual site anymore, so it’s unclear whether the nameplate has retained its title of #1 in Singapore or whether it has been reclaimed by the Toyota Corolla in 2018.
