The Iraqi new car market is definitely on the mend in 2018 with sales up a whopping 52.8% year-on-year over the first 10 months of 2018 to 41.365 units, and even up 54.4% when accounting for the same set of brands – in effect removing BMW from 2017 figures as the carmaker has stopped reporting sales in 2018. Korean carmakers dominate sales in Iraq with Kia (+64%) soaring to an implacable 53.2% share thanks to almost 22.000 registrations, now followed by Kia (+209%) tripling its sales year-on-year to hit 15.6% share, enough to edge past Toyota (+33%) at 15.3%. Jeep (+1653%), Mitsubishi (+1317%) and Dodge (+520%) also post extravagant gains to all fit inside the Top 10. Renault (#6) returns to Iraq but Chevrolet (-49%) implodes. Model-wise, the Kia Frontier (+31%) remains the runaway leader with a gargantuan 27.8% share, distancing the Kia Sorento (+366%), Sportage (+96%), Hyundai Tucson (+130%) and Toyota Hilux (+30%). Both the Hyundai Elantra (+1106%) and Jeep Grand Cherokee (+1601%) multiply their 2017 sales by more than 10 and we welcome the Renault Duster (#14) and Symbol (#23) in the Top 30.
