Vietnam September 2018: Toyota up 52%, Mitsubishi up 102% in market up 19%

The Vietnamese new vehicle market soars 19.5% year-on-year to 25.351 units, yet the year-to-date tally is in negative so far at -2.7% to 192.980. Toyota surges 52% to 24.7% share vs. 21.2% in 2018, repeating at #1 above Thaco-Kia (+4%) very weak again at 17.2% vs. 23.2% YTD. Mitsubishi (+102%), Mazda (+61%) and Chevrolet (+58%) also post stunning gains inside the Top 10, with Peugeot (+2061%) and Nissan (+252%) standing out further down. The Toyota Vios (+40%) cements its leadership ahead of the Toyota Innova (+77%) while the Kia Cerato (+194%) overtakes the Toyota Fortuner (-8%) for third place overall. Excellent scores for the Mazda3 (+68%), Honda City (+50%) and Mazda CX-5 (+46%) as well, whereas the Ford Ranger (-50%) and Honda CR-V (-35%) plunge. This month we welcome no less than four new nameplates: the Toyota Wigo (#25), Rush (#43), Avanza (#52) and Mitsubishi Xpander (#48).
