2018 is a year to forget for new car sales in Uruguay, down another 22% year-on-year in September to 3.442 units, pulling the year-to-date tally down 16.9% to 32.376 sales. Suzuki surges 27% year-on-year to spend a 2nd consecutive month in the brands pole position, however this is not enough to move the brand from the #5 spot it holds year-to-date – like in 2017. Chevrolet (-20%) is up 3 spots on August to #2 despite a market-matching drop while Renault (+23%) edges up one spot to #3 and Volkswagen (-30%) tumbles down to #4 but remains the YTD leader by just 50 sales above Renault. Toyota (+102%) more than doubles its sales year-onyear to leap up to #7 with Nissan (-6%) and Peugeot (-11%) losing a lot less ground than the market but Fiat (-52%), Hyundai (-32%) and Citroen (-28%) crumbling down. Outside the Top 10, notice JAC (+88%), Kia (+81%), Subaru (+80%) and Chana (+33%) posting spectacular gains, but Chinese brands as a whole are down a damning 71% to 4.9% share vs 7.6% YTD.
