According to data shared with us by our partner CE Auto, the Serbian new car market shoots up 24.6% year-on-year in September to 2.393 registrations, leading to a YTD volume up 10.5% to 25.209. We have a surprise leader in the models ranking this month: the Hyundai i20 leaping up to #1 whereas its only appearance in the Top 10 in the past two years was at #10 last April. This sudden surge is mostly likely the result of an isolated fleet order by a large company or a government unit, however we couldn’t find any relevant information in the local press. If you live in Serbia and know about the reasons behind the i20’s 1st place in September, please make sure to comment on this article. The rest of the Top 5 is amazingly all posting triple-digit year-on-year gains, led by the Skoda Fabia (+193%), Opel Astra (+156%), Skoda Octavia (+125%) and VW Golf (+128%). In contrast, the locally-produced Fiat 500L (-55%) seems to have seriously gone out of fashion and as a result loses its 2nd place YTD to the Skoda Fabia. As a reminder the 500L had led annual Serbian sales for 4 of the past 5 years.
