Uruguay July 2018: Volkswagen #1 again, teases Renault for YTD lead

Volkswagen is the #1 brand in Uruguay for the 4th consecutive month.

Another difficult month for new car sales in Uruguay, down 30.5% year-on-year in July to 2.727 units, leading to a YTD tally down 16.9% to 25.060. Volkswagen (-8%) is the most popular marque for the 4th consecutive month, falling much slower than the market to 19.4% share and now standing only 15 units below Renault (-4% in July) in the battle for the YTD top spot. Fiat (-5%) also frankly outpaces the market with a tiny decline and is up three ranks on June to #2, whereas Chevrolet (-47%), Nissan (-36%), Hyundai (-16%) and Peugeot (-42%) all tumble down. Toyota (+11%) and most strikingly Kia (+133%) go against the grain and are the only Top 10 brands to post year-on-year gains. Further down, Mitsubishi (+250%), Jeep (+200%), JAC (+42%), Subaru (+86%) and Great Wall (+12%) also shine.
