Taiwan July 2018: Mazda, Honda shine in market up 4%

The Toyota C-HR sees its Taiwanese registrations soar 179% year-on-year in July.

New car sales in Taiwan return to positive in July at +4% year-on-year to 43.056 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 2.8% to 265.250 registrations. Strikingly, the Top 4 brands outpace the market, with Toyota up 7% to 27.7% share, Mitsubishi/CMC up 5% to 11.6%, Honda up 12% to 9.2% and Mazda up a whopping 36% to 6.2%. Reversely, Nissan (-41%), Luxgen (-16%), Ford (-14%) and BMW (-13%) sink but Lexus (+54%) and Volkswagen (+40%) both take off. Model-wise, Toyota monopolises the podium with the Corolla (-21%), RAV4 (+7%) and Yaris (+38%), ahead of the Honda CR-V (-6%) and Toyota Sienta (+23%). The Toyota Vios (+36%) and Honda HR-V (+29%) also shine in the Top 10, while below great performers include the Toyota C-HR (+179%), VW Tiguan (+154%), Lexus NX (+152%) and Mazda CX-5 (+130%).
