Slovenia May 2018: VW Polo best-seller, Fiat up 3-fold thanks to 500

The Slovenian new car market gains 7.6% year-on-year in May to 7.301 registrations, lifting the year-to-date volume up 9% to 34.299 units. Volkswagen more tham doubles the market growth, soaring 18% to 18.5% share, over two percentage points above its YTD level of 16.4%, easily outmanoeuvring Renault (+3%) at 14.5%. Skoda (+5%) rounds up the podium above Opel (+15%), replicating the YTD Top 4 while Fiat once again posts the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 25 – an by far – at +198% to 5.3%. Nissan (+42%) and Citroen (+25%) are the only two other Top 10 carmakers sporting a double-digit gain whereas Dacia (-29%) and Hyundai (-10%) struggle and further down the ranking Subaru (+500%), Land Rover (+100%), Mitsubishi (+65%), Volvo (+59%), Honda (+35%), Kia (+20%) and Ford (+13%) make themselves noticed.
Over in the models ranking, after two consecutive months at #2 the VW Polo surges 117% year-on-year to snap its first monthly win since March 2017, distancing the Renault Captur (+39%) while the YTD leader the Renault Clio implodes 376% to #3 and 3.6% share vs. 5.4% so far in 2018. The VW Golf (-27%) and Skoda Octavia (-17%) also struggle whereas the Fiat 500 its up 45-fold (!) to #6 and the Nissan Qashqai is up 187% to #6. The VW T-Roc is up one spot to a record 9th place, not hurting the VW Tiguan (+52%) by any measure while the Opel Crossland X is up 13 spots on April to #13 and the Skoda Karoq is up 11 to #32.
